Default VRC Pro offroad

SHORT COURSE TRUCKS

This has probably been the single most asked question: will there be off-road in VRC Pro? Yes, VRC Pro goes off-road, delivering on an old promise. The first class to feature in VRC Pro will be the immensely popular electric powered 1:10 scale 4WD Short Course Truck class. These cars are a good starting point into off-road, they are fun and exciting to drive (and fly…) and with the spectacular short course truck bodies they really look great on the off-road tracks. With this class VRC Pro caters for the typical basher as well as the typical racer. A wide range of top-brand tires and special off-road motors will be available for the short course trucks.

Short course trucks will be introduced early July, so look out for it.

More info can be found on the VRC Pro facebook page: www.facebook.com/vrcpro

The early July release has been postponed due to unexpected complications and intensified testing demands related to the co-release of several new features, including replay, ghost cars, controller mapping, achievement system, new camera zoom system and several other features.

Even though the short course truck is now practically ready for release, more work needs to be done to tackle the side effects of transmission changes prepared for the short course trucks (especially the differentials). These side effects affect the handling and performance of the on-road cars as they use the same physics engine. Good progress was already made and we hope to still release offroad this month.

The other reason for delay has to do with the development of new features. Many new features were developed since the last big game update and all need intensive testing before release. Some of you may say: why not leave those features out and release offroad now? It’s not that simple. Everything is programmed in the main program file (exe), you can't leave things half finished and roll back to a previous version to say it simply.

On top of that, also our involvement in the IFMAR Worlds with the Race2theWorlds project is demanding our attention and resources.

As always, we are doing our utmost to get it out, but only when it is ready to go out. I can't wait to let you guys get your hands on short course off-road.... Here are some reactions from our beta testers:

Lonny Larkan
I am very impressed at what I have experienced this far. I think the short course trucks are all very close and fun to drive, great job so far in all departments.

Randy Angelito
...it feels very much like my real truck in the air.

Claus Didriksen
I am amazed of the job that the vrc team has put together. The trucks feel right in the air and on the ground.

Marco Grandesso
The truck is actually close to something real

Martin Wollanka
On the track the car feels good and in the air it feels very realistic on the steering. Congratulations!

Good news! The off-road expansion release is now officially scheduled for Friday (10-08-2012).

The developers have succeeded in tackling the last few bugs and issues. Yes, we are finally ready. There is a lot of excitement among the beta testers about the short course car performance and realism as well as all the other new features.

It’s time to enter the era of VRC Pro off-road racing!

This is our official 'new car class in development' announcement, and It's going to be 1:8 Nitro Buggies. This class will be our first ‘open-wheel’ type of chassis, requiring fully animated suspension, including the suspension arms, shocks, sway bars, track rods and drive shafts. This type of animated suspension requires a different approach on the physics as this part of the software controls all these movements. In the other chassis the suspension geometry is laid out as 2 ½ D, but the open wheel off-road buggies need 3D geometry because of the complexity of these suspensions. Not only needs the rake angle of the front suspension to be modeled in 3D, also other features like C-hubs and anti-squad geometries need to be fitted in. This called for a complete overhaul of the suspension system by physics expert Todd ‘Doc’ Wasson. The result will not only be very nicely animated suspension, but also more accurate suspension geometries for the physics engine to calculate the car behavior which will result in further refined handling. Eventually all classes may benefit of the new 3D geometry technology that is now being developed for 1:8 buggy.

The introduction of 1:8 nitro buggies also calls for more full size tracks like Rhein Main. Currently graphics artist Tony West is working on A Main Hobbies Silver Dollar Raceway in Chino California, and a few more exciting full blown off-road tracks. We can’t reveal everything here, want to keep a few surprises for you…
