Im new to the fourms here. Ive got a DuraTrax Truck its my 1st RC car i work a lot on car engines. I was wondering if i could boost preformance by porting the exhust port. Ive got a tuned pipe for it.
What are the main differences with Nitro engines and Gas engines in the sense on how they function and how they produce HP
Thanks

i wouldnt waste the time if its your first r/c car. if you looking to get into something mroe serious, there are rules as to what you can do. that and there are much better motors out there so you dont have to mess with it.

You can do a small amout of porting on almost any nitro engine and it will help the performance of the engine. I would start first with a little port matching, making sure there is a smooth transition from piece to piece. You can use a piece of heavy weight paper to "map" out each side of the port then match them by enlarging the smaller port, or the piece that interferrs with the smooth flow.
Also if you really want to get into it you can taper the cylinder ports to releive the sharp edge. Look at the direction of the flow and remove any sharp edges that would cause turbulance.
Caution should be used to insure that you do not port out to open air ( removing too much) and that you do not reduce the back pressure below what is needed by the motor to run properly. Two strokes require a certian amout of back pressure to run.
Other than that go for it, let us know what you get. After all the piston and sleeve are easy to replace if it does not help performance.
