Man, they are pretty fast right out of the box. The only draw back That I have found is that the Steering servo is much to slow. It really needs a faster/stronger servo to handle this kind of power. I couldn't imagine one of these with a Mamba Monster Maxx motor upgrade, It would be beyond "stupid fast"!!!

I havent driven one yet but they seem to have respectable speed and acceleration out of the box for racing. Other than for bashing or just going silly fast i wouldnt want them much faster because handling and durability come into play with more power and speed(but overpowered is fun to). The stock servo is fine but the truck would definitely benefit on a track with a higher speed servo with a little more torque. Im holding off until the slash 4x4 platinum edition hits the shops since locally the rtr slash 4x4's are all gone already. Heres some video i shot at IHobby 2009 to give you a better idea of the trucks on a tight course, keep in mind the drivers probally had very little or no prior wheel time before this demo with the trucks on this track.

ok well i ordered it my next question was about a lipo for this are they that much work to handle with or are they easier than people make it seem cuz the book said that i could get a lot more power with a lipo for this truck

If you go with a 3 cell lipo youll get a lot more power and speed but a 2 cell pack will be plenty of power. Lipo's get a bad rap sometimes, ive been flying rc aircraft for four years now and lipo's are all i use and i use them in rc cars as well,if you use the proper charger, charge properly, and follow the directions there isnt really anything difficult about using them. Also lipos are much lighter than similar capacity nimh packs.

Got my slash 4x4 platinum edition yesterday. Probally have some video by the weekend, first things i noticed.. much stiffer shock towers than the 2wd slash, diffs seem to have a thicker viscosity action(front seems thicker than rear).. but it hasnt been run yet. It comes with some extra goodies.. extra stock rear hub carriers(plastic),extra pinion 18 tooth, 2 extra spurs 50 and 52 tooth, extra sway bars for tuning, plus the fluid filled center diff and all the listed upgrades that are part of the platinum edition slash 4x4. Its 12 degrees out right now but i might have to brave the cold and take it out for a night time blast up and down the street for a bit.

Took the slash to the track.. to cold to run outside. The truck took a beating with cased jumps and nose ins etc and didnt break anything.. did lose some body clips though. Went over the truck and checked the screws on the aluminum parts and added some loctite and that was it. Got in two runs.. one with the truck as it comes out of the box and one with some different tires, rear camber settings and front shock setting changes. The track was a bit loose and i havent driven it before.. havent driven a rc car for about two months and this was the very first run and run after some changes during practice at the local track. BTW im running a 2s 6400mah lipo in the truck.

there is no reason for you to have trouble clearing any of those jumps! i've seen one do at least 6 feet of distance from a jump with a 1.5 foot run up stock!

It didnt have any trouble at all. On a track you have to be a little considerate of other drivers.. the times i didnt clear jumps was because i didnt try.. to many cars in the way and its better to double single a triple than try and make a pass in the air and land on another car or to clear a jump some cars cant make and just over shoot the turn rather than single the jumps and stay on the inside.

Get Real, that is very thoughtful of you..there are to many hacks out there that don't care if they break someone else and ruin other drivers days..

I wish you good luck with your PE Slash..

Do you think you will stay with the Traxxas power setup? I would love to have one of these, but at $400, there is no way...I got to go begging..I have friends that are engineers at Traxxas (they are local to me) ..maybe I can get one of the "fail test" models and fix it up cheap..! hahahahha

The vxl system works and its water proof.. if i want a lot more speed the option to run 3s is already there as well. I still have a 5700kv motor and esc i could try maybe and the mmm 2200kv combo but the vxl will probally be fine for most and if spec class's for the slash 4x4 take off youll probally have to run the stock power system. The price seems about right for the rtr, competitive 4wd 1/10 cars are well over $300.00 for just the car without any electronics or radio. Ask your bud's if they have considered a super slash based off a revo.. 1/8 truggy size with a giant slash body . Would be pretty cool to see one if theres a market for it later down the road.
