With the recent release of the GP 3300 batteries, we have recieved a lot of emails asking our opinions of them. Personally, I have found the batteries to work awesome. The run time is longer of course, yet the voltage is STILL higher than the average 3000 SMH or HV that I have tried. What are your opinions on these new cells?

As wih all panasonic cells I am very curious to see just how durable they are. I pretty much trust all sanyo cells, but panasonics seem to die alot quicker....

Actually, these aren't Panasonic cells. They are by Powers International. They have been around in R/C for a while, but this is the first pack they have made to power the cars (made Rx packs and stuff before). I talked to Mike Reedy about the cells and he said they held up awesome and out performed the 3000's in every class except weight of course.

I am thinking about picking up some of these new 3300's. I wonder if there is a difference between 1.13v and 1.14v with the same runtime. I have to wonder if there would be any diff on the track! Right now I run stock but going mod in NOV.
The difference in price is $10 so is the $10 worth the 1.14+ or should I go with 1.13+ and hope there is no difference on track.

Either one you should be able to win with, but when you are spending $70/pack, I would spend the extra $10 to have the best. You will notice the difference a little bit. But... that's just my opinion.

When buying batts always buy the very best you can afford.......

I dont know guys. I will probably buy the best, but I think this is more a mental issue then anything.
JUST because if you buy the best with slightly better numbers then you just feel good about it. This seems to be the case, but I am sucked into it as well. If I buy the better ones I will just feel good about it, but can they really be that much better?? I dont think so.

As long as you feel confident with your equiptment you will do good..... Is it possible to win a majpr race with lesser equiptment .....TOTALLY!!!
BUT agian, if you THINK it makes you faster, then it does!!!! :D

Agreed! I have won tons of races with lesser equiment. It mostly comes down to driving skills and setup, but i dont think that 1.14 will offer ON TRACK GAINS over 1.13. Heck I am prolly going with the 1.14 just like you said, if you think it makes you faster then it does!!! Nice words

Does anybody know the actual differences in voltage and internal resistance?
derekjr_1
10-02-2002, 01:32 PM
Well Internal Resitance is what gives you punch. The lower the IR, the more punch. Usually the lower the IR, the higher the voltage.

The IR numbers varry on each pack. They should be printed on the label.

Definetely,
If the IR numbers are not printed on the label, go with a different matcher. I recommend PRO MATCH. Also SMC. They both print everything on the labels.

Yeah, Pro Match and SMC are awesome. I like Orion and Peak also. World Class are pretty good as well. Certain *BIG* companies though I have rematched and came up with totally different results. Stupid monopolies.....

Yeah I dont really like the *BIG* companies for batts, cause the support from them sucks. Jeff at Promatch or Danny at SMC are readily available to answer questions you have about there product and they really dont seem to mind. They are both really AWSOME fellas!
I have never tried orion or peak batts, but I like orion and peak motors. There are a few guys out at my track that SWEAR by orion though.

Orion and Peak are the same batteries with a diffrerent label... literally. They are both matched at the same facility using the same methods over in Europe. Same with Fantom and SMC cells.... SMC does all of them, and puts Fantom's label on the Fantom packs. If you have questions about the Orion/Peak packs, you can call and ask for Rick Howart, Mr. Peak Performance himself. With most companies you can't talk to the big guys, but he is one guy that would be willing to help you out.

Yeah peak has a forum and I haled talked to Rick through that before. He is a good guy as well, and like you said not many companies that you can talk to the big guys!

Not only that, but if Danny finds a certain set of charge perameters that work best he will explain why, and not just spout off a maintanance regimine that is printed on a little tag inside the box........

Yeah danny's info is so freaking helpfull. Plus he doesnt just go off numbers from the machines. He gets real world track testing. He truly is an awsome guy. Same with Jeff Roe of Promatch!

Do you think the gp3300's will have more punch for stock than
sanyo HV's, or 2400's

Hey guys, I just bought some GP 3300's (Orion). I will be racing 4-cell stock 1/12th. Any recommentations on batt care? I have a LRP Pulsar charger. What amp should I charge at? How to discharge and store? Can I run the packs more than once a day? etc.
I appreciate any help.

I would say charge at 4 amps, discharge at 20 amps down to 3.6 volts, allow to cool and recharge. This is what has been recommended with 3000's so 3300's should have little differences......
Use different racedays to test and see what works best for you..... first do the 4 amps charge, the next week do 5 amps, next do 6..... I wouldn't charge at more than 6 amps for a 4 cell pack. Also once you figure out what amperage rate works best for you then try discharging and not discharging after the run....
Also if 4 amps seems to work bestthen try a 3 amp charge and see what happens.... I have heard some guys that start out at 4 amps and each charge after that day jump up 1 amp..... if you think it makes your cells stronger thru the raceday then it does......
Racing is 90 percent mental and 10 percent physical...... So if you think it makes you faster then it does....and will on the track!!!

Luv2race, I have used 3000HVs & 2400s in stock. My new 3300s from Promatch have more punch than the 3000HVs & 2400s. I wish I kept my good 2000's to compare. I my book good 2000s were very hard to beat at the small track I race at....
